Blog Development FAQ

  • How long does it take to build my project?

Each project is different. Some projects need more exploration than others. So they obviously take more time. Plan a few months from start to finish as an average.

  • What should I expect?

Expect that we will not have your design on the first try. We have an exploratory process that takes time and an open mind. Please remember, we are trying to make something that is unique and translates an abstract concept into visual form. It normally takes a minimum of 3 rounds of design work to get into the “ball park”.

  • What input do I have?

We look at this as a team effort. We will set up a “kick-off” meeting with you and our design staff. At that phone meeting, we will dissect your brand and other brands to establish goals for your project. From there, we will begin the design phase and share each step with a phone call to open discussions about the progress. Together we will decide the best route for the project and move forward accordingly.

  • What system is the blog built on?

We build our custom blogs on Movable Type (MT). The reason is that MT is a robust developer’s platform and allows for flexibility and download speeds that other platforms just don’t have. MT is a leading industry platform and was used by the Obama Campaign, Britney Spears, and many others.

  • What do I get with my photography blog?

Our starting price is a vertical blog that normally comes with a flash header, large image formats and great features such as twitter and blog show. Horizontal blogs and other features will increase your price.

  • What is a horizontal blog?

The horizontal photography blog was conceptualized by intothedarkroom and Jay Reilly. The idea was to take advantage of the horizontal format of browser/monitors. To do this, we reformated the vertical blog into a horizontal blog to maximize the image area.

  • Does the horizontal blogs cost more? Why?

Yes. The first horizontal blog was built for Sarah Rhoads. It was no easy task because there was nothing like it in the industry that we could use as a guide. Although we have worked out the kinks, the horizontal blog is more complicated to build than a vertical blog simply because blogs were never intended to be on their sides.

  • Should I get a horizontal blog?

Horizontal blogs are unique, look different, and definitely make an impact. However, they are new concept and are best for a young tech savvy audience.

  • Can you build me something that no one has ever seen?

Yes. But you probably don’t want that. Be careful when you are trying to reinvent the wheel. It is great to be different, but when you put all of your energy into trying to make the most amazing website/blog, the photography becomes secondary. Our advice is to think simple and let the photography take center stage.

  • What is a blog-site?

Well, a blog-site is…still a blog. Some photographers have been replacing there website with a blog and trying to stuff all of their website pages into the blog to make it a one stop shop. Many people are using the term blog-site thinking that it is going to be one answer to all of your problems. We believe that you should have both. A blog and a website both have their place. The website tends to be a more formal presentation of your best work. The blog tends to be a less formal presentation that gives people a sense of who you are.

  • Why are blogs all the rage?

Blogs are a powerful marketing tool because they will have more repeat traffic that your website, will be shared by your clients, will build a captive audience, and will give people a sense of who you are.

  • What do I do to reserve a spot?

We take a specific number of clients per month. To reserve a spot, you must pay the full non-refundable fee. Please call to get a final quote for your project.
