Why did my twitter stop loading (or is really slow)?
- Twitter, while a very cool social networking application, imposes severe restrictions for developers and access via their API (advanced programmers interface). Currently, Twitter has a hard limit of 100 requests per hour for any service that is not on their domain. This is including 3rd party applications like digsby, twinkle, and, of course, your website.
- What our Twitter plugin does is caches your tweets, and re-checks this at least every 10 minutes, so your site will only use a maximum of 6 requests per hour, leaving ample room for other 3rd party applications to interface with your twitter account. And if you do happen to hit your limit even with the 6 requests per hour throttling (say, if you’re experiencing heavy usage), it will always serve up the last cached version.
